educational games

There are more than 1 way to learn about world issues: We can read, listen, and play games, too! The following are the games I know. I'd be very glad if you could help me lengthen this list. (note: each game's description is from the game's website)

1.Darfur is Dying: Darfur is Dying is a narrative-based simulation where the user, from the perspective of a displaced Darfurian, negotiates forces that threaten the survival of his or her refugee camp. It offers a faint glimpse of what it's like for the more than 2.5 million who have been internally displaced by the crisis in Sudan.

2.Water Alert: Tearfund and WaterAid have produced another online game to highlight issues of EU aid for water and sanitation. Play the game now and see how much EU money you can collect. When you have finished the game, you can use their online form to write to Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for International Development, to ask him for more aid for water and sanitation.

3.HIV/AIDS game:Ever wanted to ...
- control the future?
- try out different relationships and situations?
- go back and change your mind?
- get the skills you need to take control of your life?
If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, or you just want to play a cool game, you can start now!

4.MDG card game: Do you want to learn more about the MDGs in a fun way? Or do you think you already know everything there is to know about them? Then test your knowledge while playing our MDG Card Game! Match the cards, answer the trivia questions, and based on your speed and accuracy, accumulate the most points to be eligible for one of our prize packs.

5.Food Force (huge!): A major crisis has developed in the Indian Ocean, on the island of Sheylan. We’re sending in a new team to step up the World Food Programme’s presence there and help feed millions of hungry people.

6.Have fun and learn: 5 games from the National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens

Dr. NIDA's Challenge - Explore a body to find out what happens when someone uses drugs. Take the challenge and see if you can build a better body.
You will need the Flash plug-in to play this game

HIV, AIDS, and Drug Abuse Game - Navigate the maze and answer the questions correctly to make your getaway.

NIDA Libs - Marijuana - Fill in the blanks to create your own article about Marijuana.

Sara's Quest - Join Sara Bellum to explore the brain's response to different drugs!
You will need the Flash plug-in to play this game

Space Wrangler Game - Answer the questions by shooting the correct color asteroid.

Model UN in Vietnam - Help needed!!!

Hi everyone,
I'm planning to set up a Model UN club in Vietnam. However, as I have very little experience of club organization and have known about Model UN only recently, I need your help, as much as possible. My plan is as follows:
1. Do some research on Model UN (I'm currently doing this)+ Translate Model UN guidelines into Vietnamese
2. Spread the idea of Model UN in Vietnam on the web (TIG, VOY and some Vietnamese youth forums) and in schools.
3. Find sponsorship and adult mentors.
4. Open the club.
I know there are many Vietnamese young people who have a lot of leadership and volunteer experiences. So, please help me. I think Vietnamese youths really need a Model UN club where they can discuss world issues together and enrich their knowledge of different cultures.
Thank you.

To all TIGgers: Visit Vietnam through songs

Believe it or not, one of the best ways to find out about a country is listen to songs written about it. You may have heard of Vietnam before, but probably you haven't had the chance to visit it or you may still consider it a country of war. Personally, I believe songs have the power of a cultural embassador that can take you to a faraway country and enable you to understand its people.

So, why don't you try listening to some Vietnamese songs (both folk and modern songs)? I'm sure you'll discover some very beautiful things about Vietnam. Here are some great Vietnamese music websites:
1. http://www.vnstyle.vdc.com.vn/Music/index.html (English)
2. http://nhacso.net/Music/ (Vietnamese)

And some categories of music in Vietnam (according to nhacso.net):
1. 'Nhạc Cách mạng' = Revolutionary or War Music (music written between 1954 and 1975)
2. 'Nhạc Dân tộc' = Folk music
3. 'Nhạc Nhẹ' = Contemporary music
4. 'Nhạc Trữ tình' = Romantic music
5. 'Không lời' = Songs without words
6. 'Rock Việt' = Vietnamese rock
7. 'Nhạc Trịnh Công Sơn' = Music by Trịnh Công Sơn (a famous Vietnamese songwriter)
8. 'Nhạc Tiền Chiến' = Pre-War Music (music written before 1954)
9. 'Nhạc Thiếu nhi' = Children's Music

Have fun.

Hi, everybody!

Hi everybody!
I'm Thu, a new TIG member from Hanoi, Vietnam. I'm an 11th-grader and my dream is to take part in the various activities that other TIG members are doing. In fact, I know virtually nothing about the world of NGOs and volunteerism, so I hope through TIGblogs and discussions, you guys will help me get familiar with such things. Another reason why I create this blog is that I want to broaden my knowledge of global issues and to discuss them with my peers. Ok, I think that's enough for now. See you again.

To all Vietnamese TIGgers: why don't we create a group blog for the Vietnamese community that is completely devoted to exchanging experience and helping the newbies like me?
